Bachman Builders, Inc., a local homebuilding company specializing in custom construction, was awarded the Best Kitchen Renovation over $75,000 for an addition built in Moon Township, PA.  The Owner of the home, a local politician and his wife, along with Bachman Builders are thrilled.  I spoke with the president of Bachman Builders about this specific project and subsequently the reward.  He, Mr. David Bachman, said the following:

“This politically involved professional couple came to us just loving their lot and location.  Although this house already had large Living and Dining Rooms, they found themselves crowded into a small traditional Kitchen.  Being the active couple that they are and being heavily involved in casual entertainment, it was imperative that this couple have an elegant yet spacious Kitchen.

We had to remove several walls and expand the space of the Kitchen to create the dramatic open feel that the clients desired.  Our Kitchen Designer developed an amazing plan that created a stone cooking-center resembling an old world courtyard oven.  In order to move the walls we had to re-route electrical HVAC and the main second floor-plumbing stack.  We solved this by designing four columns on the oversized granite island and running the plumbing stack through the middle of one of the columns.  This required the installation of several engineered wood beams above the kitchen ceiling line.

It all came together with skylights, recessed lighting, a cook top surrounded in stone and beautiful large granite topped cherry cabinets.”

After asking David Bachman, the builder, to sum up this extensive project in one word, he smiled – with aged laugh lines around knowing eyes – and spoke from all of the wisdom from his 20-some years in this business.  He replied with a hearty, “Unique!”
